There is quite an Internet buzz over our selection of AJ Styles as the number-one man in the 20th edition of the "PWI 500." Most people agree with our selection. Backstage sources at TNA, however, tell us that one man most definitely does not: reigning TNA World champion Rob Van Dam.
RVD, our sources say, is outraged that he is not number one, having beaten Styles for the World championship in April and again in several rematches. He's absolutely correct. Unfortunately, Van Dam is not taking into consideration the fact that the "500's" evaluation period runs from June 1, 2009, till May 31, 2010. During that time period, Styles actively defended the title for a TNA-record seven months. RVD won the belt a month-and-a-half before the conclusion of the fiscal year and was largely inactive in the months preceding his TNA debut this past March.
Hopefully, Van Dam will chill, but if he's as angry as reported, he's going to try to prove his point to AJ in the ring. On the other hand, armed with the knowledge that he was selected by an independent source as the number-one wrestler in the world, Styles may just have the edge when the two next meet.
